Kateability or Capability?

A portrait of Capability Brown

What’s in a name?

My business name – Kateability Brown – is a play on words, inspired by the legendary English landscape architect, Lancelot “Capability” Brown. Known for his extraordinary vision, Capability Brown transformed the landscapes of many prestigious estates and country houses around the United Kingdom during the 18th century.

And nowadays, would a BBC costume drama really work so well without a Capability Brown landscape in the background?

Kateability Brown pays homage to the iconic gardener while adding a feminine twist and, indeed, my first name to the mix. It embraces the notion that within each garden lies untapped potential—a capability waiting to be uncovered and nurtured.

That said, I tend to specialise in garden design and planting plans in Edinburgh, rather than using hundreds of people to dig lakes, build low stone bridges and having clients with hundreds of acres of estate. But never say never!
